Great Day at the Lake

The Great Day at the Lake
Posted 3/4/2010 9:35 AM CST

I’m thinking Sheboygan should have a wild card day this summer. Fourth of July rules like bonfires and pits on the beach, yet on a completely random day chosen by the Mayor.

The Mayor simply sends a twitter message declaring It’s a Great Day at the lake, the world retweets and texts the message, a link to a youtube video detailing the event is included, and the masses are mobilized for a flashmob super day of all that is Sheboygan County. No worries about weather, no advance tickets, just a great day at the lake.

Johnsonville could fire up the big grill, Old Wisconsin and Miesfelds could go old school, and Sparky could move his cart into position if he wants. Ty Gutschow and the boys from Larry’s could setup the beer pumps, Sargento could pimp cheese, you get the idea. Musicians would be encouraged to come out and play, drum circles could be formed, and coffee could flow.

Cost would be minimal because it’s a great day, no tents needed, no advertising, it’s a great day. Sheboygan’s miles of lakeshore would be showcased for the world to see. We could crowdsource a website documenting the day and the public could go live on our cable access. The whole thing can be cost neutral and potentially go to retiring municipal debt, the bottom line is nobody profits directly but the citizens. Companies that participate would find numerous benefits and would be allowed to recoup costs if they would like, or good will and notoriety.

Thousands of people could drive golf balls into the big lake, local businesses could sponsor cheesy contests and we could all have a great day. Crime would drop because nobody wants to be in lockup and miss the great day. Local products could be showcased as sculptures for the day and I, for one would have a great day.

This is a win, win, win, win situation, nobody has to participate, yet, this could be a modern day Woodstock on the water.

Rampant Hooliganism Plagues Plymouth as “Friends of Matlock” Storm City Centre.

February 14th, 2010

Friends of Matlock

ME, or,  Matlock Empathizers openly cavort on street corners throughout Plymouth late Friday night. Trained combatants, clad in yellow paramilitary garb, spread fire throughout the city,  as a rag tag group calling themselves the “Friends of Matlock” rallied around their heros, enjoying themselves just a little to much for our liking.

Sell the children, cut the cheese, whatever, just stop scenes like this from spreading to Elkhart Lake or Kohler.

Sheboygan is already lost, but we must come together right now over ME.

Mark Shurilla’s Rockin’ 50s Party
‘The Day The Music Died’
Saturday, January 30, 2010 7:30 PM

The Wisconsin Area Music Industry’s (WAMI) 2009 ‘Tribute Artist of the Year’, Mark Shurilla, returns by popular demand with his famous tribute to the Winter Dance Party of 1959, a tour that starred Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, Dion and more. With his band, The Greatest Hits, and an all star cast including Liam Ford (Johnny Cash), John van Thiel (Elvis), Danny J. (“The Pavarotti of Rock”), Jayne Taylor, Marvalous Marla and 4-year-old Sheboygan phenom Valor Yost (‘The Kid in Black’), this cavalcade of stars delivers a spectacular tribute to the ‘Golden Age of Rock and Roll’.

I took that picture about ten years ago at some ballroom.

Synecdoche Sheboygan Jingle

May 15th, 2009

Sheboygan Jingle by ontrackmusic.com

Sheboygan Sausage Company, over on you tell me street, commissioned this jingle, I posted it, and you can hear it.

Not sure if this is promoting canabilism or some sort of alien feeding station of the Soylent Green ilk. Conspiracy theorists believe it is a plot to replace the generic term bratwurst with the brand name of Sheboygan.

This is the best bang for your buck in the park.  The bratwurst smells delicious, it looks delicious, it tastes delicious.  My only complaint is that I wish they would use small hot dog buns.  I want more deep throat sausage action and less bread.  The bread should only be a vessel to put that brat in my mouth.

Not all Sheboygan is the same.  The ones grilled at the Doggie Diner in the View Reserve section is the best.  Must put hot mustard on Sheboygan.   I do not leave the ball park unless I eat a Sheboygan.

Liebham versus Doyle Thomas Industries

May 5th, 2009

Doyle personally offered deal to keep jobs in Sheboygan

Still, Leibham said, Doyle should have gotten involved earlier, talked with the company more frequently and discussed the issue with company officials. Leibham said that personal touch was needed because Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal – a Republican star – was closely involved with that state’s offer.

“My disappointment was and still is with Gov. Doyle’s personal involvement,” he said.

Leinenkugel said the governor was regularly briefed on the situation.

Leinenkugel said company officials told him the decision centered on its labor costs, which are $3 or $4 less an hour in Louisiana. The jobs in the Sheboygan compressor and vacuum pump plant typically pay $19 an hour, or about $39,500 a year.

Wisconsin’s offer was worth $2.55 million to move about 80 Louisiana jobs to Sheboygan. Instead, the company took a $9 million deal to move 280 Sheboygan jobs to Louisiana.

Leinenkugel said the offers from the two states were the same, noting the cost of moving jobs to Louisiana is higher because there are more jobs and more equipment in Sheboygan. Leibham agreed the deals were comparable.

Leibham acknowledged Wisconsin’s offer was a good one and that labor costs were a deciding factor for the company. But he said the state’s business climate also contributed to the departure.

Branson ready for Spaceport America

May 2nd, 2009

White Knight 2’s will make its public debut next month at a fly-over during the groundbreaking for Virgin Galactic’s Spaceport America terminal. Head honcho Richard Branson will climb aboard for the spacecraft’s coming out party at the big AirVenture Oshkosh air show in July.

By my calculations this puts Spaceport America slightly ahead of Spaceport Sheboygan in the latest space race.
